How To Sharpen Scandi (Scandinavian) Grinds on a Wicked Edge
A Scandinavian grind is based on a traditional saber grind but usually has no secondary bevel. The grind begins at a point on the flat of the blade and tapers directly to the edge. Scandi grinds can be challenging because they feature a very wide bevel which can be hard to match through curve of the belly. The procedure for “
Finding the Sweet Spot” should be followed and the added step of tilting the blade in the clamp will help. In some cases, it may be necessary to re-grind some portion of the blade to fit it to the sharpener’s geometry, though this isn’t common and doesn’t require much effort. Another option for a Scandi ground blade is to add a small micro-bevel 1 degree wider than the primary grind. Adding the micro-bevel has the benefit of allowing you to custom tune the level of refinement along the very edge of the blade.
