How To Sharpen Scandi (Scandinavian) Grinds on a Wicked Edge

A Scandinavian grind is based on a traditional saber grind but usually has no secondary bevel. The grind begins at a point on the flat of the blade and tapers directly to the edge. Scandi grinds can be challenging because they feature a very wide bevel which can be hard to match through curve of the belly. The procedure for “Finding the Sweet Spot” should be followed and the added step of tilting the blade in the clamp will help. In some cases, it may be necessary to re-grind some portion of the blade to fit it to the sharpener’s geometry, though this isn’t common and doesn’t require much effort. Another option for a Scandi ground blade is to add a small micro-bevel 1 degree wider than the primary grind. Adding the micro-bevel has the benefit of allowing you to custom tune the level of refinement along the very edge of the blade.
