Can the Wicked Edge Sharpen Fully Flat Ground Blades?
Yes. Clamping a fully flat ground blade is fairly easy. If the spine of the blade is especially thick and the taper dramatic, extra care must be taken to ensure that the knife is mounted vertically. To accomplish this using our Standard Vise Jaw, you can place a little double sided foam tape on the inside top of each vise jaw which really makes securing the blade very easy. Small strips of leather can also work well. The images below show how to use the tape to mount the knives. We've successfully used the foam tape many times to sharpen a lot of FFG blades, especially Spyderco Military blades and kitchen knives. The video at the bottom of the page shows the technique for mounting the knife without the tape. Our Cam-Lock Vise Jaw is designed to grasp FFG blades without the need for tape or leather. If you have many FFG blades, we recommend using that jaw instead of our Standard Vise Jaw.
